Turkey has audio of Saudi writer's killing, reports say

The assertion by the pro-government Sabah newspaper, through which Turkish security officials have leaked information on the Khashoggi case, is reportedly ratcheting up the pressure on Saudi Arabia to explain what happened to the missing man.

On Sunday, stocks on the Tadawul All-Shares Index plummeted 7% in early trading, wiping out all the gains made this year, before recovering slightly around noon.

President Donald Trump said the United States would be punishing itself if it halted arms sales to Saudi Arabia over the suspected murder of a journalist and American resident on the kingdom's consulate in Turkey.

World leaders have demanded an explanation from Riyadh after U.S. and Turkish media reports that authorities believe Khashoggi, a legal resident, was killed in the consulate.

His case risks hurting not just fragile Turkish-Saudi relations but also damaging the image of the kingdom and its ties to the West as Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman promotes a reform drive at home.

US President Donald Trump said he would "punish" Saudi Arabia if it were found responsible for killing him.

"They deny it every way you can imagine". Could it be them?

However, Trump in the same interview said: "As of this moment, they deny it and they deny it vehemently".

"There's something - you'll be surprised to hear me say that - there's something really bad and disgusting about that if that were the case, so we're going to have to see", said the USA president, who had previously attacked some media outlets in his own country as "enemy of the people".

Mr Trump has said his administration won a $110 billion military order from Saudi Arabia and that the deal, combined with Saudi commitments to invest heavily in the United States, was worth hundreds of thousands of USA jobs. The journalist had given his phones to his fiancée before entering the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul on October 2.

"We still have not seen cooperation in order to ensure a smooth investigation and bring everything to light".

"You can hear his voice and the voices of men speaking Arabic", the person said.

He urged it to do so and allow Turkish officials to enter the consulate.
