Trump opponent Warren reveals DNA test in challenge to president

As for his thoughts on her report?

The lawmaker is considered among a handful of front-running Democrats who could challenge Trump in 2020.

"It's important to know that DNA ancestry and heritage are not the same thing as tribal affiliation or cultural identity", she said, adding: "I also think it's important that Senator Warren is not making the claim that she belongs to a tribe or identifies as a Native American; she's just talking about her family's history".

The analysis of Ms Warren's DNA was done by Carlos Bustamante, a Stanford University professor.

"The President likes to call my mom a liar. What do the facts say?"

Known as a liberal firebrand in her party, Ms Warren is a former Harvard Law School professor who has championed populist economics including student loan reform and a higher minimum wage.

The test concluded Warren's ancestry is mostly European but says "the results strongly support the existence of an unadmixed Native American ancestor".

At a White House event honoring World War II Navajo code talkers he referred to Warren's claims to Native American ancestry.

Warren also indicated she hadn't forgotten about Trump's promise in July.

Trump's mockery reached a peak in July 2018, when he offered an apology to the real Pocahontas, but refused one to "the fake Pocahontas", meaning Warren. This was an in-kind campaign donation to the Warren for President campaign, not a reported news story. "He's talking about stuff he doesn't have any idea about", Mark Herring, her nephew, says in the video.

The European American genome was found to be "much different" than that of African Americans and Latinos, with "European American genomes being 98.6 percent European, 0.19 percent African and 0.18 percent Native American", according to a 2015 article by the Genetic Literacy Project.

The move immediately stoked further speculation about Warren's potential as a 2020 presidential candidate, brought back video of President Donald Trump's "Pocahontas" attacks on her - and took the spotlight away from Democrats vying to take back Congress. Warren has denied using her Native American heritage to gain any advantage.

"I hope she's running for president", Trump told reporters on Monday, "'cause I think she'd be very easy". The press will surely hold the president's feet to the fire, and he will magnanimously concede that he was wrong about Warren, before apologizing for constantly mocking her for the past two years. Warren tweeted Trump is a "cowardly elitist" and she "won't sit quietly for Trump's racism" so she took the test.

Warren has always been dogged with questions about her family history. (The Globe initially miscalculated this, due to a math error.) In this latter case, Warren wouldn't be any more of a Native American than the average US citizen.
