Second woman makes allegation against Kavanaugh

President Donald Trump is pledging his support for Kavanaugh, saying the sexual misconduct allegations against his choice are "totally political".

A participant in that email exchange was one of the individuals mentioned in the New Yorker piece, Mayer said - a classmate who declined to be named but who said that he recalls hearing about the Ramirez incident at the time it happened.

I understand that I have been identified by Dr. Christine Blasey Ford as the person she remembers as "PJ" who supposedly was present at the party she described in her statements to the Washington Post.

In a statement obtained by Fox News, Kavanaugh calls Ramirez's allegation as a "smear".

White House spokeswoman Kerri Kupec called the new allegation part of a "coordinated smear campaign by the Democrats created to tear down a good man".

In a letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee, Kavanaugh said he "will not be intimidated into withdrawing from this process". "We'll see how it goes with the Senate, we'll see how it goes with the vote".

The New Yorker said it contacted Ramirez after learning of a possible involvement in an incident with Kavanaugh.

At least four Democratic senators have received information about Ms Ramirez's allegation, the magazine said, of whom at least two have begun investigating it. The Democrats then began investigating.

While reading The New Yorker story, the weakness of the allegation becomes apparent immediately.

Mr Borrell told the story at a lunch event in Madrid this week, in comments that were widely reported by the Spanish media . I made the speech. "They have a series of walls, I'm saying, 'It's like ideal .' So, so, we are pushing very hard".

But having spent six days assessing her memories and consulting her attorney, she felt more confident and was now calling for an FBI investigation.

How that could backfire for Republicans: What if Ramirez and her lawyer find more people to corroborate her story?

"She came forward because Senate Democrats began looking at this claim". He calls the allegations "grotesque and obvious character assassination" and says they could dissuade others from entering public service.

Kavanaugh's nomination hangs precariously. A handful of senators in both parties remain undecided on his nomination. What's at stake here is a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court. The White House is standing by the nominee, even as attorney Michael Avenatti indicates that he has "significant evidence" of additional wrongdoing by Kavanaugh. Christine Blasey Ford says Kavanaugh held her down, covered her mouth and tried to remove her clothes during a party when they were in high school. The committee said all three told investigators that they had no recollection of the evening in question. Grassley's staff also agreed to let Ford testify without Kavanaugh in the room, for there to be only one camera in the room, "adequate" breaks and a high security presence. His classmate Deborah Ramirez told the magazine that as she was lying on the floor at a dormitory party after a drinking game, Kavanaugh exposed himself, thrust his genitals in her face, and that she pushed him away.

Dozens of people protesting the nomination of Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court have been arrested Monday outside the office of Republican Sen. "It could be another delaying tactic", a senior White House official had said. Senate Republicans should stand up to these unsubstantiated and discredited allegations and move forward with a vote to confirm Kavanaugh.

The Senate Judiciary Committee has released the letter which can be read in full here.

Ford's lawyers said it was still unclear who will ask questions, as Republicans were trying to hire an outside female counsel who could take over the questioning.
