Giroud opens up about 'special' Chelsea boss Sarri

Giroud opens up about 'special' Chelsea boss Sarri

Chelsea superstar Eden Hazard has been backed to win the Premier League Golden Boot in record-breaking fashion after a blistering start to the 2018/19 season.

Hazard himself has hailed Olivier Giroud as the world's best target man after the World Cup-winning striker laid on two goals for him.

Chelsea travel to Greece for Thursday's Europa League tie against PAOK, and Sarri will consider rotating his squad.

Chelsea's ideal winning start to the season is papering over the lack of firepower from their big money signing Alvaro Morata, and with Olivier Giroud hardly prolific, the big priority in the new year is likely to get another goalscorer through the door - a move for Mitrovic would be surprising but he indeed appears to be on the radar.

Sarri admitted he would rotate the two strikers according to the qualities of Chelsea's opposition: "I watched Cardiff four times and thought Giroud was right for this match".

Maurizio Sarri said he will need both Olivier Giroud and Alvaro Morata on form to keep Chelsea on track in all competitions after Giroud impressed against Cardiff City on his first Premier League start of the season. For their characteristics, they are different. "Today [Giroud] played very well without scoring, but very useful for his team-mates I think".

"We are very risky in the offensive phase, but in the defensive phase we need to improve", Sarri concluded.

The Italian boss wants to turn Chelsea into the best team in England but says Liverpool and defending champions Manchester City will be the league's pacesetters.

"We have to improve step by step". I think it's normal that in this period we have some defensive problems.

"So I have to organise better the defensive phase and the players have to understand that". We knew, especially after the (international) break, it's always very hard to play a good game because you are all a bit exhausted, but at the end we got three points.
