Amazon to launch Alexa-powered microwave, amplifier, subwoofer, and more

Credit: Tom's GuideAccording to a report from CNBC, Amazon is going to roll out at least eight more Alexa-equipped hardware devices before the end of the year. CNBC's report claims that an internal Amazon document points at the online retailer revealing some or all of these devices at an event scheduled for later this month. Both companies have devices which can be connected to and controlled using Alexa.

Bringing Alexa to more devices fits in with the plans Amazon has outlined for its voice assistant.

All of the rumored devices would have Alexa built in, or have easy access to the virtual assistant (likely over an Internet connection). With this new venture, Amazon will be establishing a proper ecosystem with its range of smart speakers and the new home appliances.

The information comes from CNBC, which reports that Amazon is planning to release various voice-controlled devices allegedly including a subwoofer, amp, microwave oven, and something that will be used within a auto, all of them featuring Alexa. Amazon also earlier this year bought the smart doorbell maker Ring.

The microwave is getting the majority of the headlines and rightfully so, since it will be the first time Amazon has entered the home appliance market. Amazon is also stepping up partnerships with home installation companies and home builders. All of them will be Alexa-enabled, however, some of them will have Alexa inbuilt, says the report.

Amazon doesn't disclose sales numbers for the Echo, but has previously said "tens of millions" of Alexa-enabled devices sold worldwide.
