State health departments are warning residents to take precautions against mosquitoes, which spread the virus.

Southern Idaho health officials have confirmed the first case of human West Nile Virus in Lincoln County on Tuesday.

So far in IN there have been two confirmed cases of West Nile virus disease in humans, in Hamilton and Vanderburgh counties.

"To date, there have no human cases reported, no positive mosquito pools identified, and no positives identified by Canadian Blood Services through their screening program", the media release said.

There is no specific treatment for West Nile virus other than to treat symptoms.

About 80 percent of the infected people have no symptoms, and experts recommend that those who have fever, headache, muscle aches, vomiting or skin rash, must rush to the nearest clinic. More serious symptoms include a high fever, a stiff neck, mental confusion, tremors, paralysis, and even a coma.

Another measure to prevent the virus is to wear long trousers and long-sleeved shirts to avoid getting bit.
