Scott Morrison Chosen as Australia's New Prime Minister Following a Leadership Crisis

Under the Australian system, as in the United Kingdom, the prime minister is not directly elected by voters but is the leader of the party or coalition that can command a majority in parliament.

Turnbull's prime ministership was effectively over earlier today after a mass exodus of his ministers and a new challenger in Morrison putting his hand up for the top job.

An ultraconservative faction of the Liberal Party, which includes former prime minister Tony Abbott, help lead-on the coups.

The extraordinary scenes in the nation's capital have been met with renewed disgust towards the political class - already rated among the least trusted people in the country, despite an era of relative prosperity and economic growth.

This was Friday's front page of the notoriously outspoken NT News in the Northern Territories.

"I think some people should have considered the greater good of the people of Australia, and the government, rather than their own self-interest and ambition", he said.

"They put personal benefits and career ahead of the national interest", he told AFP.

"I don't think there's much evidence to suggest that that conclusion is not correct". "Some of them are still playing university politics and they don't see that they have a responsibility". He also supports Australia's reliance on fossil fuels, and has been ambiguous on his stance toward climate change measures. However, in the days since, several ministers have defected to the hard-line wing of the conservative party that opposes the outgoing prime minister's more moderate political approach.

"They want globalisation to stop".

One the surface of things, it would appear that Jose Mourinho has put all of his eggs in a Paul Pogba shaped basket. " We thought maximum [he would play] 60 minutes, but he managed more than 80 ".

If that gave Guardiola something to ponder at the interval, it required just three minutes of the second half for Silva to restore City's three-goal cushion.

Despite his country's track record, Morrison has promised stability for Australia's political future. "I'm sorry. You deserve better than numerous things our Federal Parliament has served up to you for the past 10 years", wrote Nationals MP Darren Chester, whose party is in coalition with the Liberals.

And with senior ministers defecting, Turnbull's near three-year grip on power is tenuous despite surviving a snap ballot on his leadership on Tuesday, winning the vote 48-35.

"Do you know where Australia is?" one Twitter user wrote back to Trump.

His scathing speech was echoed on social media, where Australians vented their frustration at the latest antics.

"PM Morrison is the most market-friendly option", said Annette Beacher, Chief Asia-Pac Macro Strategist at TD Securities in Singapore.

"It's not the leaders who need to change, it's the policies".

The Dutton forces circulated a petition to force the prime minister to call a Liberal partyroom meeting last night - a tactic used successfully by the Rudd forces in their final assault on Julia Gillard in 2013.

Former Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton needs 43 signatures for Turnbull to call a party room meeting and there are reports that number has quickly climbed over the past 24 hours. Bookmakers on Friday had Labor a favourite to win the next poll.
