Pyongyang also returned the remains of some United States soldiers killed in the 1950-53 Korean war in a gesture meant to break down mistrust between the countries, it said.

National security adviser John Bolton earlier this week said North Korea had not begun the progress, while United States envoy to the UN, Nikki Haley, said Washington was "not willing to wait for too long" for the North.

It also claims that "high-level officials within the USA administration are making baseline allegations against [North Korea] and making desperate attempts at intensifying the global sanctions and pressure".

"The idea that we're going to relax the sanctions just on North Korea's say-so, I think, is something that just isn't under consideration", he said. South Korea's presidential spokesman said last month that Seoul wants a declaration of the end of the 1950-53 war sooner than later.

Asked about the possibility of additional meetings, Bolton said Trump in a recent letter to Kim proposed sending Pompeo back to North Korea, and that Trump was ready to meet with Kim any time.

But across the region, there have been signs that U.S. President Donald Trump's campaign for "maximum pressure" lost steam after Pyongyang sought to improve relations with Washington, Seoul and Beijing.

North Korea has made clear it felt the Singapore summit was only a first step, and that its own concessions - such as freezing nuclear and missile tests and the returning of remains - should be reciprocated by the United States in some manner.

North Korea has in the past expressed anger over comments made by administration officials in the media, especially Bolton.

Kim vowed in Singapore to work towards denuclearization but the two sides have yet to define a deal to meet that goal and Washington insists sanctions pressure must be maintained during negotiations.

Amid a lack of progress on North Korea's denuclearization and recent reports of the country evading sanctions, the U.S. has stepped up calls for tighter enforcement of the sanctions.

USA officials have declined to comment on a report on the Vox news website on Wednesday saying that North Korea had repeatedly rejected a US proposal for it to cut its nuclear arsenal by 60 to 70 per cent within six to eight months.

However, many used the same clip to point out that criticizing "Fox & Friends" for praising Kim but not other news sources were hypocritical.

"We remain unchanged in our will to uphold the intentions of the top leaders of (North Korea) and the USA and to build trust and implement in good faith the (Trump-Kim) joint statement step by step", it said.

"The U.S. should, even at this belated time, respond to our honest efforts in a corresponding manner", the ministry said.
