Police superintendent Michael Harrison, speaking to reporters overnight at the scene of the crime, said one of the suspects was believed to be armed with a rifle, while the other carried a handgun.

Police said they responded to reports of a shooting late Saturday, July 28, at a "daiquiri shop" about 3 miles from the southern U.S. city's famed French Quarter. "And we need more than anything for people to come forward to help the NOPD right now solve this case", Harrison said. The injured - five men and two women - were taken to several hospitals in the area, police said.

Three of the seven injured people were taken by ambulance to University Medical Center's trauma center, police said. The three victims were two men and one woman.

Crimestoppers can be reached at 504.822.1111 or through the website. A third was found a few blocks away in the 2800 block of Louisiana Avenue.
