Papa John's Founder John Schnatter Resigned As Chairman of The Board

The Minnesota Twins have "indefinitely suspended" the worldwide pizza chain from their Minneapolis stadium, Twins communications director Dustin Morse says.

Schnatter resigned from the UofL Board of Trustees Wednesday after admitting that he said the N-word in a conference call created to prevent public relations disasters.

Schnatter's controversial comment came during a role-playing exercise during a May conference call, which itself was organized in the wake of his comments concerning the NFL, and placing blame on the league's national anthem protests for the company's sales, Forbes reported.

Schnatter acknowledged the report was true Wednesday and issued an apology.

The school has a deal that runs through 2040 with Schnatter himself and not the Papa John's brand, but if Schnatter leaves the company he can rename the building, according to ESPN. The right to change the name of the stadium reportedly belonged to Schnatter.

But the school faced mounting pressure from a number of constituents, including football players Seth Dawkins and Jaylen Smith, to drop the company's name from the stadium.

Venus reached her ninth Wimbledon final previous year , but the American star was denied a sixth title by Garbine Muguruza. Former Wimbledon finalist Agnieszka Radwanska lost 7-5, 6-4 to Czech world number 66 Lucie Safarova.

A person inside the company with knowledge of the decision said the decision to remove Schnatter as the marketing face of Papa John's was made by top executives and the details and exact timing are still being worked out. Papa John's did not immediately respond to whether the company would keep using it.

Schnatter, a Trump donor, who has resigned from three high ranking positions in the past six months as a result of racist remarks, on Wednesday admitted to using the slur during a conference call in May. Of that total, $14 million came from Schnatter personally and the remaining through Papa John's global on a deal that runs through 2040. Their statement condemned Schnatter, but noted that the Astros "are proud of our 10-year partnership with Houston Pizza Venture, a local Houston business and owner of the local franchisees". Several people told Friedland how inappropriate and hurtful his use of the word was.

"The Marlins are committed to an inclusive environment for all of our fans", the Marlins said in their brief statement announcing the suspension of Papa John's-related activities.

The company can not afford to alienate customers, with sales already under pressure from rivals such as Domino's.

Papa John's International Inc. began operations in 1984 and had more than 5,200 locations globally.
