Australia-Phillipines FIBA game turns into insane basket-brawl

A FIBA World Cup qualifying game between Australia and the Philippines has erupted into shocking all-in fist fight in the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan. Maker, a 7-foot-1 South Sudanese Australian who now plays center for the Milwaukee Bucks, was playing for the Australian National Team and Blatche, a former NBA player, was on the Philippines.

Australia was leading 79-48 with just over four minutes to play in the third period when a foul in the lane halted play.

Nine Filipino players were ejected from the game in the wake of the brawl that spilled over to the sidelines, which saw some members of the crowd throw water bottles on the court as well.

Finally, the fight ended and somehow the game continued - after 13 players were ejected.

The Australian gave RR Pogoy a forearm following a collission involving Chris Goulding. However, media officer Rick Olivares of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) said that FIBA will study all reports - from the technical delegates to the referees - before making a decision.

In a weird aftermath, the game resumed after the fight and ejections with five Boomers and three opponents, then eventually had to be called off when two of the Philippines players intentionally fouled out.

"We apologise to our fans and will await the penalties to be handed down", he added.
