Trump says he'll be 'signing something' on detained children

"It's about keeping families together", Trump said at the signing ceremony on Wednesday, reports BBC.

The president continued: 'We must always arrest people coming into our Country illegally.

On Wednesday morning, Trump gathered top White House aides, along with Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, in the Oval Office to discuss the problem and tell them he wanted it resolved.

Trump, who is headed to Duluth Wednesday evening for a Make America Great Again Rally, added: 'If you're really pathetically weak the country is going to be overrun by millions of people, and if you're strong then you don't have any heart... perhaps I'd rather be strong'. It also directs the attorney general to seek to modify a 21-year-old settlement agreement that stipulates that the government can not hold minors in immigration detention for more than 20 days.

Trump said the executive order is about keeping families together while at the same time making sure that they have a very powerful and strong border.

In the past, the government released entire families once the 20-day clock ran out.

We will have that as the same time we have compassion.

House Democrat Juan Vargas participated in a loud and rare protest against a sitting president by US lawmakers inside the US Capitol.

"The Department of Homeland Security will do what is possible to hold illegal border crossers accountable while also holding families together as long as the law allows".

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, whom President Donald Trump has quarreled with in recent weeks over trade, also condemned the separation policy. It also calls into question numerous administration's recent claims about the basis of the "zero tolerance" policy that was announced by Attorney General Jeff Sessions in April.

Pa. congressional map unaffected by US Supreme Court decision
I am pleased that the current maps remain intact for 2018, allowing voters to have certainty going into the fall elections. Kagan added that courts have an important role to play given the harm caused by gerrymandering.

Still, he said the president's dramatic reversal on separating children won't solve anything: "I see that as placating people".

With emotions running high, a handful of House Democrats protested the Trump meeting, yelling out at Trump in a rare face-to-face demonstration against a president by sitting members of Congress. They want open borders, which breeds terrible crime.

The ACLU are leading the opposition to the separation of families at the U.S. border, with a petition to the Secretary of Homeland Security that reads: "Stop separating children from their parents in immigration detention". The House of Representatives planned to vote on Thursday on two bills created to halt family separations and address a range of other immigration issues.

British Prime Minister Theresa May said she found images of children being detained in cages "deeply disturbing" and called the separation policy "wrong".

"Today's order is likely to just have the effect of jailing families who are seeking safety for months or years", Tumlin said.

"My wife feels strongly about it". "I think everybody believes that".

Polls show the public is overwhelmingly opposed to separating immigrant children from their parents, though a majority of Republicans support the approach.

"[We] have to do more than say 'this isn't who we are.'" he wrote. Female suburban voters are considered crucial in deciding control of Congress this fall.

Former President Barack Obama also released a statement via Facebook Wednesday morning.

"We need to embrace our legacy as a safe haven for the persecuted and stop subjecting bona-fide refugees to further trauma by locking them up while they pursue their lawful claims to relief", Tonello said.
