Two men set off bomb in restaurant in Canada, 15 wounded

The blast happened as at least two separate birthday parties were taking place.

Jennifer Evans of Peel Region police said the investigation into Thursday's explosion at the Bombay Bhel Restaurant in Mississauga, still in its early stages, but said the incident is not now believed to be either a hate crime or an act of terrorism.

The presence of children was particularly shocking to Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie.

There were children under the age of 10 in the restaurant at the time, but "fortunately they were not injured", Evans said. She further vowed to bring culprits to justice.

The Peel Regional Police said they received a call at 10:32 p.m. ET after two men detonated an improvised explosive device inside the Bombay Bhel restaurant in the city of Mississauga.

An explosion in Ontario has injured 15 people after an IED was set off in a restaurant.

Three of the wounded - a 35-year-old man and two women, aged 48 and 62 - were taken by ambulance to hospital in critical condition, but were listed as stable on Friday morning.

"There's no indication this is a terrorist attack. At this time, the police are undergoing a full investigation to ensure the individuals are apprehended".

The area outside the restaurant remained taped off Friday afternoon. Officers were also examining a scene a few hundred metres away, looking at footprints in a new residential development. "This place is like their baby".

The Bombay Bhel restaurant describes itself online as an authentic, yet casual, Indian dining experience.

"It's a very family-friendly area", he said.

"(Crombie) has my personal cell number and she will be in touch with me if there's anything more that we can do", Wynne said.

"You are not supposed to be exposed to things like that", Sawala said. "We are working closely with the police and the Mississauga authorities".

Peel Regional Police investigating the blast tweeted about the powerful explosions.

Local police have reportedly said it is not immediately clear what may have caused the explosion.

"We're still assessing the extent of injuries", Yashynk said.
