Tony Bellew stops David Haye in fifth round of rematch

Tony Bellew stops David Haye in fifth round of rematch

In yet another exciting; domestic fight at a sold out O2 Arena, Tony "The Bomber" Bellew secured another stoppage victory against David Haye, doing so this time in a more emphatic and clinical fashion!

Haye, 37, said before the fight that he needed a spectacular win to prolong his career, and it seems unlikely that the former world heavyweight and cruiserweight champion will continue beyond this. Forced to deal with another bum leg, Haye received treatment for his Achilles before last fighting Bellew and has undergone two shoulder operations since 2012. Bellew weaved his way back in as the first round wore on, but a big overhand near the bell gave it to Haye.

Tony Bellew was out to prove his first win against David Haye was not a fluke and proved so in the grandest of ways. I don't care who you are, you're going out. I'm a walking super-series.

'I enjoyed every moment of this fight campaign, from the lung busting sessions, the press conference shenanigans, early nights, clean living and even the tear up itself! "I need a megastar". Bellew is now the one moving forward as Haye is trying to find an opening to turn the fight around.

"Chances are I'd dance around the ring and he'd jab my head off but what I will say is when the likes of the great Muhammad Ali met the great Joe Frazier - he'd been out of the ring for how many years through inactivity with the Vietnam thing - so timing is everything and styles make fights". Haye connects with a couple of short left uppercuts that momentarily put Bellew to the ropes.

The fourth round went well for Bellew, landing the right hand to hurt Haye a number of times in the round and nearly knocked him down again.

In the third round, Bellew twice sent Haye to the canvas thanks to a pair of powerful right-hand punches.

Both men were given the same £2.5m guarantee in their first fight, although Haye reportedly came away with a whopping £4.2m.

The following two rounds took much the same course, with Bellew seemingly happy to let Haye expend energy. The Englishman's good looks, trash talking, god-like physique and devastating punching power - a promoter's dream - became too big for the cruiserweight division, one where Haye suffered just one defeat in 22 contests and held the European, WBA, WBC and WBO belts.
