LeBron aims for more heroics in Boston

Speaking after the heartbreaking loss, head coach Brad Stevens hailed the fight put up by his young Celtics side who were without star men Gordon Hayward and Kyrie Irving for their remarkable playoff run.

Not many thought a young Celtics team could make much noise in the National Basketball Association postseason, and yet, through a quarter-and-a-half of Sunday night's Game 7 against the Cleveland Cavaliers, it appeared they were destined to write a storybook ending.

The Cavs strangled the Celtics behind James, who dropped 32 points with 14 rebounds - falling one assist short of a triple-double - en route to a miserly, defensively-focused 81-74 victory to take the series four games to three. First in Miami and now in his second tour of duty in Cleveland, James has frustrated, tormented and extinguished the championship hopes of a string of Celtics teams.

All in all, this was this team's first postseason run together, and having the NBA's best player on the ropes no matter his supporting cast is an impressive feat. Altogether, Cleveland compiled a 50-32 regular season record, good for the No. 4 seed in the Eastern Conference, despite James appearing in all 82 games for the first time in his career. They still can surrender open shots everywhere, a flaw that seems fatal against the 3-point happy Rockets or Warriors. The last time an NBA Finals did not feature James was in 2010.

We now know why Irving wasn't at the game.

Then they sang a "Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World" medley, bringing host Ryan Seacrest to tears. He wrote that he is honored to call Maddie his, and also included an "I love you" at the end.

James has a reason to leave Cleveland; there may be a more talented team elsewhere. "He's had a lot of gaudy games but a Game 7, in Boston, the history behind Boston, playing a undefeated team at home".

"I thought it was an outstanding defensive game, and again, he still got 35-15-9", Stevens said. "The great quote from the great Doc Rivers is, 'You always want to go into the Game 7 with the best player, ' and we have the best player on our team going into a Game 7". "Does it at this level, with the pressure, with the scrutiny". "It's just so intense in the playoffs and getting to the Finals and now the Finals, I don't think - and I know he doesn't - I don't think even our guys are talking (about anything other than) what's in front of them". The Boston Celtics are headed home to face the Cleveland Cavaliers in what should be a spectacular game.

Boston was up 43-39 at halftime after leading by as many as 12 in the first half.

To put that into perspective, Rozier, Brown and Marcus Smart combined for just 21 points while shooting 8-for-42 from the field, including just 3-of-26 from three-point range. They were able to take care of the first part - and did it basically without Love, with former Celtics player Jeff Green filling in and having a strong game. I'm the wrong guy to ask.

"It's one of those things where I really have to tip my hat (to James)", Celtics All-Star Al Horford said.
