Beloved Actress Margot Kidder Famous for Playing Lois Lane Dead at 69

- David Axelrod (@davidaxelrod)RIP to Margot Kidder, who made sure my generation knew just how awesome Lois Lane was.

A very influential person in the Superman universe [VIDEO], Kidder, passed away Sunday at her home in Montana, the cause of death is still listed as unknown as of right now. Margot Kidder was best known for her role opposite Christopher Reeve in the Superman films of the 1970s and 80s.

While she finished playing Lane in the '80s, Kidder continued to act through the years and her last acting credit came last year in the drama film "The Neighborhood", but she has two more yet-to-be-released projects, according to TMZ. It's also worth noting that Kidder apparently dealt with some mental health issues in the 90s that resulted in some run-ins with law enforcement that made the headlines at the time. Unfortunately, her career unavoidably slowed after she suffered a mental breakdown in 1996.

She was beloved by horror fans for her roles in The Amityville Horror, as well as the cult flicks Sisters and Black Christmas.

Her first husband was McGuane.

Reeve died in 2004 from complications from a spinal cord injury in 1995. Now, Hollywood figures - including former Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman star Teri Hatcher - and comic book writers have taken to their official Twitter accounts to pay tribute to Margot Kidder. In 2015 she won an Emmy award for Outstanding Performer in Children's Programming for her performance on an episode of R.L. Stine's The Haunting Hour.

She didn't let anything stop her from her dreams, beginning a career in acting in 1969, only to leave to go to NY for more training after a director told her she wasn't a very good actress. The actress was married three times, first to novelist Thomas McGuane, in 1979 she Wednesday actor John Heard - but the couple split up six days after the wedding.

Her marriages to actor John Heard in 1979 and director Philippe de Broca in 1983 also ended in divorce. She was arrested at the White House in 2011 during a protest against the construction of an oil pipeline from Alberta to Texas.
