Alpharetta woman, 65, dragged from vehicle during traffic stop, officer resigns

Police in Alpharetta, Ga. are investigating the arrest of a 65-year-old grandmother who was violently dragged from her vehicle by police during a traffic stop gone wrong.

Squad auto video shows Officer James Legg shouting "you're not in charge, shut the f*** up" before pulling Rose Campbell out of her vehicle during the heated encounter on Windward Parkway in Alpharetta on May 4. The grandmother objected to signing the citation, however, saying she believed doing so would be an admission of guilt. As the other officers tried to pull the woman out of her vehicle, Legg pointed at her and then shouted, "Hey, you're not in charge!"

The Alpharetta Police Department posted a video on Facebook Thursday including a statement from Public Safety Chief John Robison and footage from the squad auto showing the incident, which took place May 4 during a traffic stop at Ga.

He wrote he was concerned about Campbell's ability to use her vehicle as a weapon and run over or drag the "numerous police officers" who responded to the call for back up.

"I come from a world that, when I was a teenager, we feared getting pulled over and getting a ticket because Mom and Dad would have to pay for it", Campbell said in a Friday news conference with her attorney and several state lawmakers.

"I just panicked. I just, it was like my heart exploded", Rose Campbell told local WSB TV, after she was pulled from her vehicle and screamed at during an arrest over a traffic stop. "There are aspects of the video...that simply don't represent who we are as an organization".

Maybe I should not have used profanity, but its immediate effectiveness is not questionable and I do believe I acted reasonably under the circumstances.

"Who are you talking to?"

'You need to get out of the auto, you're under arrest, ' Swerdlove says.

Dashcam video showed Legg pointing at the driver and shouting, "You're not in charge".

After a while, Campbell agrees to exit her auto.

Page Six claims the two were spotted arriving together for a party held for USA ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell on Sunday. Donald Trump Jr . married Vanessa Haydon back in November 2005 and had five children over the next decade.

That officer reached into the vehicle to open the door and repeatedly told her to step out of the auto.

Officer James Legg of the Alpharetta Police Department is being internally investigated for his conduct, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

"I'm going to be honest with you I felt violated", Campbell told WSB. Although she denied the traffic violation, the officer issued her a ticket.

The official did not name Legg in the post, but said the officer "interjected himself into the situation using language and tactics that were inappropriate, even inflammatory".

At the time I arrived on scene, I saw officers unsuccessfully trying to effectuate the arrest of Ms. Campbell.

"I do not feel I will get a fair internal affairs investigation from you due to the comments you made on Facebook prior to interviewing any of the other officers, or even me", he wrote to Robison.

'I didn't expect that in America. Am I in a movie?

She requested a supervisor, who was immediately notified, the department said. I didn't expect that especially in Alpharetta.

"I'm a Christian woman, and we're supposed to offer forgiveness to walk on the path to peace", Campbell said.

Legg had been suspended, pending the investigation, but said he did not think he would be treated fairly.

As the situation escalated, Campbell said, she felt "violated".
