Albert 3K: Pujols gets 3000th hit, Angels beat Mariners 5-0

Friday: Went 3 for 5, including his sixth double and second triple of the year, and scored a run in a 5-0 win over the Mariners in Seattle, a game in which the Angels' Albert Pujols got his 3,000th hit.

Pujols is the fourth player in major league history with 3,000 hits and 600 home runs, joining Alex Rodriguez, Willie Mays and Hank Aaron.

The 38-year-old became the 32nd player and the second Dominican player ever to reach the milestone - former Mariners third baseman and current Texas Ranger Adrian Beltre was the first Dominican-born player to do that. "But at the end of the day, it's about winning a championship. Then three days later, on Opening Day, I got my first hit". But it didn't happen last night. "We were home for the whole week". He's the first player to reach the 3,000 hits since Adrian Beltre past year against Baltimore.

Chances are Friday will go down as the most historic day of the 2018 season.

And it may be a while before another player joins the club.

The next closest active player to 3,000 career hits is Detroit Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera, who collected hit No. 2,666 on Thursday afternoon by going 1-for-4 in his return from a three-game absence dealing with biceps spasms. After Cabrera is Robinson Cano, almost 600 hits away from the mark. He is seventh on baseball's career homers list after hitting his 600th last season.

Pujols is the second player to collect his 3,000th hit in Seattle after Rafael Palmeiro's double in 2005 at Safeco Field.

With Rookie Shohei Ohtani dominating numerous headlines surrounding the team and Superstar Mike Trout having an excellent start to the season, people are forgetting one of the big storylines in Anaheim.

After 11 seasons and two World Series titles with the Cardinals, Pujols signed a 10-year, $240 million free-agent deal with the Angels, a contract that has been met with much criticism as his production has declined. Two-way Japanese sensation Shohei Ohtani's arrival as the Angels' primary DH has put Pujols in the field, where he remains a capable defender.
