Trump says to use military to secure US-Mexico border

Donald Trump has announced that he'll be placing military forces at the US-Mexico border until the wall he promised in his 2016 campaign can be built, CNN reports. "That's a big step", he said.

U.S. President Donald Trump speaks while participating in a tour of U.S. -Mexico border wall prototypes near the Otay Mesa Port of Entry in San Diego, California.

Trump has already blasted Mexico and threatened to upend the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) over the caravan.

"We will be doing things with Mexico, and they have to do it, otherwise I'm not going to do with the NAFTA deal", Trump said. He said if the "caravan" reaches the USA border "our laws are so weak and so's like we have no border".

"The big Caravan of People from Honduras, now coming across Mexico and heading to our "Weak Laws" Border, had better be stopped before it gets there". Cash cow NAFTA is in play, as is foreign aid to Honduras and the countries that allow this to happen.

The "caravan" of mostly Central American migrants making its way through Mexico reportedly stopped Monday at a local park, as the marchers decide where and when to proceed. "Congress MUST ACT NOW!"

Sen. Dick Durbin, the No. 2 ranking Democrat in the Senate, said on Twitter: "I'm not sure which country he's getting his inspiration from, but here in the United States, the President does not have the legal authority to use the women and men of our Armed Forces for his own personal boondoggles".

The Jayhawks and Blue Devils are among the premier programs in college basketball, combining for eight national championships. Kansas and Duke traded barbs in an electrifying affair to close out the weekend's March Madness schedule.

The President's comments appear to take aim at current USA policy which requires border agents to catch then release family units who arrive at the border from noncontiguous countries.

Brett McGurk, the special USA envoy for the global coalition against Islamic State, said: "We are in Syria to fight ISIS". From 2006 to 2008, at most 6,000 National Guard members aided border patrol efforts.

In 2010, President Barack Obama sent some National Guard troops to the U.S.

Trump had previously alluded to the use of the military on the border with a tweet about "M".

Republican Representative Francis Rooney, a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the U.S. House of Representatives, said there was a risk of increased violence. While I was on a reporting trip to the Rio Grande Valley last month, Border Patrol agents told me that when unaccompanied minors began showing up in large numbers in 2014, it swamped their resources and left vast stretches of the border un-monitored.

On Monday, the Republican president railed against Democrats over immigration and again pressed US lawmakers to pass legislation to build his long-promised border wall between the USA and Mexico.
