After the four areas, only the district of Douma in the northern part of Eastern Ghouta remains under the Islam Army control amid ongoing negotiations mediated by the Russians for achieving similar agreement in Douma.

A civilian committee taking part in the negotiations with Russian Federation said a deal had been agreed "to evacuate humanitarian cases to northern Syria".

Assad's forces have retaken 95 per cent of Eastern Ghouta since launching a blistering assault on the besieged enclave on February 18, killing 1,600 civilians and displacing tens of thousands more. The deal was reached between the Islamist group and Russian military forces backing Assad, the United Kingdom -based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

A final deal has been reached for fighters and civilians to leave the last opposition-held pocket of Eastern Ghouta, a monitor said yesterday, paving the way for Syria's regime to retake the one-time rebel enclave near Damascus.

The sources confirmed that the deal was instead similar to the one reached in Qaboun and Barza, which stipulated the evacuation of fighters opposed to a deal reached with the Syrian regime, and their families to the north of Syria.

An agreement was reached with the powerful Jaish al Islam rebel faction to leave Douma, a town of at least 100,000 people roughly six miles northeast of downtown Damascus and the last area in Ghouta still in rebel hands, the state-run Syrian Arab News Agency reported Sunday.

"02 de abril de 2018, 00:20Damascus, Apr 2 (Prensa Latina) An estimated 1,000 militants of the Failaq al-Rahman radical movement, along with their families, reportedly left the Syrian town of Douma, the only site that was still under terrorists" control in Eastern Ghouta.

Backed by Russia, Assad's forces have scored a series of victories over opposition forces in recent years, often through campaigns of siege, aerial bombardment and ground offensives that have drawn widespread worldwide condemnation.

Douma is the last rebel-held area in Eastern Ghouta, after other towns in that sprawling countryside have seen the evacuation of all the rebels and their families toward Idlib province in northwestern Syria.

State media say 41,000 people have also been evacuated to Idlib under deals between Ahrar al-Sham and Faylaq al-Rahman.

The evacuation of the rebels and their families from Douma comes a day after a deal was reached between the Islam Army militants and the Syrian army under the mediation of Russian Federation.

"Today we implore fruits of peace upon the entire world, beginning with the beloved and long-suffering land of Syria", the pontiff said.

According to United Nations officials, hundreds of thousands of people have been killed in the conflict to date. It gave no further details nor did it say when the planned evacuations would start.

The departure of civilian authorities followed a Saturday morning meeting between several major civil society organizations and Jaish al-Islam leadership in Douma, in which the former requested that civilians be given the option to evacuate, pro-opposition news outlet al-Modon reported at the time.

"Of course I would rather leave".
