Australia and England complete Women's Sevens Commonwealth semi-final line-up

New Zealand are double Commonwealth Games Sevens champions after the men's team beat Fiji 14-nil in the gold medal match, following the women's sevens triumph over Australia in their final.

New Zealand's Regan Ware (C) evades a tackle to score a try during the men's rugby sevens gold medal match against Fiji at the Robina Stadium during the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast on 15 April 2018.

New Zealand's men followed up the women's effort as they claimed gold, four years after their heartbreaking finals loss at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

Kenya and South Africa had shared the spoils in the World Rugby Women's Sevens Series qualifier in Hong Kong last weekend and this was another close battle for African pride.

It is the first time the women's sevens has featured at the Games, writing New Zealand into the history books claiming both titles in 2018.

South Africa were quickly into their stride in the final match of the opening round, Justin Geduld scoring a try in each half as the BlitzBoks showed their ruthless side with a dominant 43-0 defeat of Malaysia, the nation which hosted the first Commonwealth Games to feature rugby back in 1998.

Landry also nailed the conversion to put her team ahead 7-0 in the early going.

The historic tournament on the Gold Coast saw the Women's side edge out Australia in extra time thanks to Kelly Brazier's long-range try. "Obviously Canada are a great team".

Under the pump throughout the first half, Australia conceded a penalty with less than a minute until halftime, with the Kiwis taking a quick tap and scoring on the left through Michaela Blyde.

The home side couldn't capitalise, with Blyde putting a try-saving tackle on Emma Tonegato just metres short of the line.

As she sat in the sin-bin Australia cleared their lines and worked the ball wide to Green and, while the Fijian-born flyer failed to round the defence as she had against England on day one, the crowd were soon raising the roof after Caslick broke free and raced away to score the winning try.
