Armenia marks 103rd anniversary of the Armenian Genocide

The Chamber of Deputies (lower house of the Parliament) of the Czech Republic approved on April 25, 2017, a resolution, condemning the genocide of Armenians in the Ottoman Turkey.

According to different estimates, over 1 million Armenians were killed or starved to death by the Ottoman Empire during and after World War I. Turkey has repeatedly denied accusations of committing the mass murder of Armenians, claiming that the victims of the tragedy were both Turks and Armenians. Thousands of Armenians and their supporters are expected to make their annual trek to the event, carrying flags and signs denouncing the genocide and calling on the United States government to officially recognize it. In 2017, it accused the USA president, Donald Trump, of "misinformation" when he stopped short of using the word genocide but marked "one of the worst mass atrocities of the 20th century". The participants marched east on Hollywood Boulevard, south on Normandie Avenue, west on Sunset Boulevard then north on Hobart Boulevard. The letter to President Trump, led by Congressional Armenian Caucus Co-Chairs Frank Pallone (D-NJ), David Trott (R-MI), Jackie Speier (D-CA) and David Valadao (R-CA) as well as Vice-Chairs Adam Schiff (D-CA) and Gus Bilirakis (R-FL) explained that: "The Armenian Genocide continues to stand as an important reminder that crimes against humanity must not go without recognition and condemnation".

LAPD officials said all streets affected by the march will be closed until 6 p.m. "The Armenian Genocide, also known as the 'First Genocide of the Twentieth Century, ' represented a deliberate attempt by the Ottoman Empire to eliminate all traces of a thriving, noble civilization".

Today marks the 103 anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.
