'Violent' ICE Detainee Escapes from Custody at JFK Airport

An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainee with previous charges of weapons-related offenses managed to escape custody on Tuesday at John F. Kennedy International airport, officials have said.

According to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, 31-year-old Mohamadou Lamine Mbacke from Senegal.

The agents had removed his handcuffs and were about to take him onto a plane when he took off running.

"An individual being transported by federal immigration officials at JFK Airport [Tuesday] night eluded custody during transfer to a connecting flight", The Port Authority of NY and New Jersey said.

"Mbacke is described as being 6'3" tall and weighs approximately 190 pounds.

Mbacke was last seen wearing a black or purple shirt, jeans and sneakers.

The escapee, who remained on the loose Thursday morning after getting away about 8 p.m. Tuesday, has not been identified.

The Daily News reports, citing law enforcement sources, that the man is considered to be a "violent deportee".

In September 2015, a immigration judge approved an order for Mbacke's deportation.

Port Authority officers were notified about the escape 45 minutes after it occurred. ICE along with state, federal and local authorities are now actively seeking his whereabouts.
