Trump Threatens to Veto Omnibus Spending Bill

"You tell me who can read that quickly?!"

After Trump signed, a Republican staffer combined the president's campaign slogan with an acronym for "Republicans in Name Only" to complain that Trump had increased the national deficit. "Some people don't even know - $1.3 trillion, it's the second-largest ever". If he vetoes the legislation, the federal government will run out of funding at midnight.

"There are a lot of things I am unhappy about", Trump said, calling for an end to the Senate filibuster, which gave Democrats leverage over spending negotiations.

The pricetag is the fault of Democrats, he insisted. He said he signed it in order to provide needed money for the military.

"My highest duty is to keep America safe".

His remarks came just hours after the US Senate voted 65-32 in favour of the spending bill, which had been approved on Thursday in the House of Representatives by a 256-167 vote, the Washington Post reported.

Trump painted a picture in which he tried in vain "to explain to [Democrats] the military is for everybody". But, we were in a sense force, if we want to rebuild our military, were forced to have. "We're very proud of numerous items that we've been able to get".

"DACA recipients have been treated extremely badly, by the Democrats". "We wanted to include DACA and include them in this bill...[but] the Democrats would not do it".

Both congressmen have proposed creative solutions to bring a clean, standalone Dream Act to a vote, like invoking the "Queen of the Hill" rule, which would allow members of Congress to debate every DACA bill that's been proposed so far.

Trump ended some of those payments as part of his effort to scuttle President Barack Obama's health care law, but Republicans have joined Democrats in trying to revive them.

Trump told a group of reporters he looked "very seriously at the veto" but made a decision to sign the bill given "the incredible gains" for the military.

The eleventh-hour veto threat added suspense to what otherwise would have been a perfunctory signing ceremony and guaranteed a rapt audience for the president's midday TV appearance. McDougal claims she had a months long affair with Trump about a decade ago and got duped into a catch-and-kill deal for exclusive right to her story with National Enquirer parent American Media Inc. The question seemed settled-until Trump's tweet. Rand Paul (Ky.) and Bob Corker (Tenn.), who had sought deeper spending cuts in the agreement, encouraged a presidential veto.

"With $1.6 billion included in the spending bill that arrives on President Trump's desk tomorrow, we're going to start to build that wall", Pence said to applause. Trump officials even tried to back-channel conservative ideas with allies in Congress to defund sanctuary cities or push for more border wall spending, but to no avail.
