Trump dumps latest additions to legal team due to conflicts of interest

The president's comments on Twitter come after John Dowd, his lead attorney on the Russian Federation probe, resigned last week, and after Reuters reported Mr. Trump has had a hard time finding legal counsel to represent him.

Attorney John Dowd quit Trump's legal team on Thursday, days after what appeared to bethe hiring of Joseph DiGenova, a cable news commentator and former U.S. attorney who has claimed that special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 USA election is an attempt to frame the president, carried out by the FBI and the Department of Justice.

Trump's personal lawyer, John Dowd, who advocated Trump's cooperation with Mueller, resigned after diGenova's hiring was announced. DiGenova, who provided the statement to The Associated Press, declined to answer additional questions about the nature of his and Toensing's representation of the president.

Toensing also represents Mark Corallo, the former spokesman for Trump's legal team.

On Sunday, Sekulow released a statement saying Trump "is disappointed that conflicts prevent Joe diGenova and Victoria Toensing from joining the president's special counsel legal team. The president looks forward to working with them".

"We thank the president for his confidence in us and we look forward to working with him" on other matters, Toensing said in a statement on behalf of both her and diGenova.

Trump says on Twitter on Sunday that he's "happy with my existing team". "Fame & fortune will NEVER be turned down by a lawyer, though some are conflicted", he said. "Don't believe the Fake News narrative that it is hard to find a lawyer who wants to take this on".

Trump wants to talk to Mueller, but his lawyers have advised against it.

The moves on Trump's legal team parallel the shakeup roiling the top ranks of his administration.

Now, Sekulow remains the only attorney on the team helping the president navigate the special counsel investigation.

The possibility of diGenova's hire attracted widespread attention to the legal figure's brash comments about the Russian Federation investigation, including the assertion that Trump had been "framed" by FBI and Justice Department officials.

The lawyers include former US Solicitor General Ted Olson; Emmet Flood, who's worked for multiple presidents; and Robert Bennett, Bill Clinton's attorney in the Paula Jones litigation.

Robert Mueller may be wrapping up his obstruction of justice case into Trump.

Trump has denounced the investigation as a "witch hunt".
