Medicaid Work Bill Dies In Wyoming House Committee

The push and pull on K-12 education funding continued Monday in the Wyoming Legislature as senators made foundational changes to the House of Representative's proposal.

The bill's sponsor said it would need to be voted on Tuesday in order to be passed by Thursday. That's the beauty of this whole system. Chants of "vote them out!" were heard after committee members passed the legislation.

"I am embarrassed to have to be here today", Caskey said, "because our friends in the Senate across the hall refuse to act".

Speaking on a possible $10 million "reduction" to Medicaid, which he later called prudent, but possibly not necessary, Justice cited a cash balance left in Medicaid from the previous year that could be used as a "backstop".

Nonetheless, Rice said he doesn't believe the Medicaid expansion program is financially sustainable over the long term and he wants to work on developing changes in advance of the 2019 regular session.

Senate leaders say they aren't happy with the situation either.

Governor Henry McMaster said, "To continue to allow utilities to charge South Carolinians for the failed project at VC Summer when we have the ability to stop it would be a failure on the part of our state's government". They are very aware of the fact that they want the pension.

The Senate balked and held the bill up for four days, expressing skepticism with the governor's revised estimate of an additional $58 million in tax revenues for next year. Our primary focus is to provide our students with a good education and nurture their growth as citizens and human beings.
