Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea 'still waiting for contract offer'

The Daily Star claimed earlier in the week however that De Gea is about to be offered £350,000-a-week to stay at Old Trafford, while other reports have suggested he has an £88m price tag.

David de Gea is still waiting on the offer of a new contract from Manchester United.

De Gea has previously been strongly linked with Real Madrid, but the Spanish stopper has seemingly become increasingly settled in the North-West of England over the past 12 months.

But United also have the option to extend that for an extra year to the summer of 2020.

De Gea and his representatives are now looking for the club to offer an improved deal due to his fine form for the club this season. But any questions about his ability have long since evaporated.

In the summer of 2015, the Spaniard did come close to departing, with a switch to Real Madrid collapsing in the final stages of the Spanish transfer window.

Madrid are renowned for forking out massive sums of money to sign the world's best talent and though they will not succeed in signing all of their targets, it is likely that they will sign some, if not the majority of them.

For Mourinho, ensuring De Gea will be spending the next chapter of his career at Old Trafford means he could build some a strong foundation.

The 27-year-old has also starred for United this season but according to Yahoo Sports, United are yet to reward De Gea for his form between the sticks.

United will be keen to see De Gea maintain the same immaculate standards he's set in recent years and to potentially develop into a leader too.
