Killed, Several Injured In Lahore Blast; Police Suspected To Be Target

At least nine people, including two policemen, were killed and more than 30 injured on Wednesday in an explosion in northeastern Pakistan, police and local media reported, APA reports quoting Anadolu Agency.

The senior police official stressed that if the suicide attacker had managed to enter the congregation site, the death toll could have been much higher. Police said they are investigating. The casualties include policemen.

Police officials stated that it could be a cylinder explosion but actual nature of the blast is still unknown. Police say they were investigating. However, the impact and sound of the blast suggest it was a terrorist attack.

The bombing was claimed by the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militant group in a statement sent to AFP, in which the jihadists threatened more attacks on police in retaliation for killing their "associates" in Punjab.
