Former Playboy Model Sues Company That Didn't Publish Affair With Donald Trump

The White House has declined to say whether Trump knew about Cohen's $130,000 arrangement with Daniels, though the notion that Trump would have been unaware strains credulity.

According to the New York Times, McDougal claims she was misled by American Media about the contract, in which she received the $150K for her "exclusive life rights" to any affair she had with a married man and to write a few fitness columns for the paper.

The lawsuit goes on to say that Davidson himself "had a close working relationship with Donald Trump's personal attorney and "fixer", Michael Cohen", who was secretly involved in the negotiations. In papers filed with the Los Angeles Superior Court on March 20 and EXCLUSIVELY obtained by HollywoodLife.com, her legal team alleges that the tycoon and his campaign worked with AMI, the parent company of The National Enquirer, to keep her story from becoming public.

"A quarter-billion-dollar company posing as a media organization systematically intimidated and silenced Karen McDougal in order to achieve its political and financial ends, and she will no longer be quiet", McDougal's attorney, Peter Stris, said.

According to the lawsuit, McDougal was promised, along with the money, that she would be featured on the media company's magazine covers and would run her columns about health and fitness.

"AMI entered into the agreement with Ms. McDougal in coordination with Michael Cohen, an agent of the Trump campaign, and for the goal of influencing the 2016 presidential election", the suit alleges.

Trump has denied both affairs.

McDougal, who grew up in Sawyer, MI and lived in the state until the late 1990s when her modeling career took off.

Convinced news of the extramarital relationship would come out in full, McDougal hired entertainment lawyer Keith Davidson who "assured her that the rights to publish her story were worth millions".

The New Yorker article noted that American Media head David Pecker has described Trump as a "personal friend".

McDougal's lawsuit comes about two weeks after similar legal action was taken by adult-film actress Stormy Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford.

"Unknown to Ms. McDougal, Mr. Davidson was working closely with representatives for Mr. Trump while pretending to advocate on her behalf", the suit alleges. It said she has been free to respond to press inquiries about her relationship with Trump since 2016 and that the suggestion that AMI silenced her was without merit.

McDougal signed a $150,000 deal with AMI for the story before the 2016 election.

"Once she's part of the company, then on the outside she can't be bashing Trump", Pecker told the New Yorker past year. "Through efforts including the collusion of her own lawyer, AMI has consistently deceived and manipulated Mr. McDougal through an illegitimate contract".
