Two junior commissioned officers (JCOs) were killed while a Colonel-rank officer and daughter of an Army man were among four people injured in a militant attack on the Sunjwan Army camp in Jammu early today.

During the telephonic conversation, the home minister sought details from Director General of Police S P Vaid on the terrorist attack on the Army camp in Jammu, according to a tweet by the Home Minister's Office. It is quite possible the attackers who stormed the Sunjuwan army camp on Saturday are the same militants who were untraceable since 2017, but how they managed to reach Jammu despite such strict security is a cause of concern.

The terrorists entered the Sunjuwan Military Station at around 4.45 am on Saturday hurling grenades and using heavy volume of automatic gunfire to attack the Army camp. Security agencies had sounded a high alert last week for February 9 and February 11, the day Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front founder Maqbool Bhat was hanged in Tihar jail in 1984.

In January, five security personnel were killed when a group of suspected Jaish militants had attacked a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) training centre in Pulwama.

"Six persons including three women and children have suffered injuries", the army said, adding, that due to the presence of women and children in the housing colony, "the operations are being progressed cautiously to minimise the causalities".
