Qatar Airways Takes Delivery Of First A350

In a press release, the national carrier of Qatar is said to be the first airline to fly the latest member of the Airbus wide-body aircraft portfolio, which is scheduled go into service on the Doha-London route this month.

The aircraft is the first of 37 A350-1000s ordered by the carrier and is the first ever Airbus aircraft fitted with the revolutionary new Qsuite seats, offering the first ever double bed in Business class.

At a ceremony at the Airbus Delivery Centre in Toulouse, France, Qatar Airlines showcased the delivery of the first A350-1000 widebody aircraft. As a result, the longer variant of the aircraft is capable of seating 44 additional passengers.

"As a Qatari, this is a moment of great pride for me, and for the country as a whole". Qatar hasn't revealed any immediate plans to expand its freight network, but according to Airbus, the A350-1000 "will be capable of supporting long-haul routes to emerging markets such as Shanghai-Boston or Paris-Santiago, as well as more traditional flight segments, such as Manchester-Los Angeles or Dubai-Melbourne".

The aircraft is the first of 42 on order. Qsuite features the industry's first fully lie-flat double bed, a revolutionary quad design offering passengers a private and fully adaptable space - the first and only of its kind - in addition to movable TV monitors and privacy dividers, which transform the space into an area ideal for socializing. The other version of the Trent XWB, rated at 84,000lb, powers the A350-900 which first entered service in January 2015, again with Qatar Airways. There's also increased capacity for "cabin temperature zones", hospital grade filters for air circulation and more than 16 million LED ambient light settings which can be used to minimize jet lag.

Qatar's Minister of Finance and Chairman of Qatar Airways Group, His Excellency Ali Shareef Al Emadi, said: "This is a very proud day for the State of Qatar, as Qatar AIrways becomes the global launch customer for the world's most techno-logically advanced aircraft".
