North Korea 'Months Away" From Potential to Hit US With Nuke: "Envoy

North Korea 'Months Away

The Trump administration has referenced that the North Korean regime would be crossing a "red line" if it developed nuclear capability for its intercontinental ballistic missile program.

North Korea's official party newspaper has published a lengthy article that argues that President Trump used human rights as a pretense for military action against its country during his State of the Union address and compared Trump's speech to a 2002 address by President George W. Bush ahead of the invasion of Iraq.

US Ambassador Robert Wood, also at that conference, insisted everything was North Korea's fault, but did not appear to contest the idea that the US was gearing up for such a sneak attack.

At the Geneva talks, U.S. disarmament ambassador Robert Wood told the forum North Korea was only "months away" from attaining the capability to strike the United States with a nuclear-armed ballistic missile.

"At the same time, it should be prepared for various scenarios - for example, how it will respond to North Korea's reaction to South Korea-US joint military drills expected to resume after the Olympics".

The Russian Foreign Ministry did not issue a statement after the talks, but the two sides are believed to have exchanged their views on the recent development in inter-Korean relations and discussed ways to maintain bilateral cooperation amid United Nations sanctions against North Korea. "We don't return anyone to North Korea by force", TASS quoted the diplomat as saying.

The CSX confirmed the collision in the statement. "CSX owns and controls the Columbia Subdivision where the accident occurred". Authorities said they haven't determined if both trains were moving or if the Amtrak train was diverted on to a side track.

Kissinger recommends that the USA work constructively to bring China and Russian Federation in agreement with how to deal with Jong-Un's North Korea.

"A limited pre-emptive strike on the DPRK is under consideration within the USA administration". The first, and most obvious, is that it's highly unlikely Kim Jong-un will believe the Trump administration's assurances that "surgical" strikes are not the opening phase of an all-out U.S. assault aimed at overthrowing the regime. "Either way it does not justify the pursuit of a new low-yield US nuclear capability", he said. Why would the leadership in Pyongyang assess that this time around would be any different?

"(Kim's visit) shows North Korea's resolve for improved inter-Korean relations and the success of the Olympics, as well as its honest, earnest attitude", Blue House spokesman Kim Eui-kyeom told a news briefing on Monday.

Pyongyang has responded by terming the sanctions as an act of war.

Pyongyang would have a compelling incentive to retaliate early with any nuclear reserve that survived a United States first strike. Some nuclear experts have said the new USA posture is destabilizing, and exaggerates the threat (especially from China). In this scenario, the North Korean leadership would confront a stark choice of either using these weapons of mass destruction to maximum effect or risk losing them in follow-on United States precision munition strikes. This will be reflected in a hair-trigger launch posture if it perceives an imminent threat.

North Korea accused the United States of seeking to aggravate the situation on the divided Korean peninsula by "deploying large nuclear assets" nearby and laying the ground for a possible pre-emptive strike against it.
