Aaron Shingler hails 'massive performance' as Wales beat Scotland in Six Nations

Scotland captain John Barclay believes intimate knowledge of his Scarlets team-mates will be no help because Wales head coach Warren Gatland will play a conservative style for their Six Nations opener on Saturday.

Two tries from Leigh Halfpenny and touchdowns from Gareth Davies and Steff Evans turned Scotland's Six Nations ambitions upside down.

The annual tournament, which has roots that date back more than a century, consists of 15 matches played in a round-robin format between six teams - England, France, Ireland, Italy, Scotland, and Wales.

It was a temporary delay, however, as Wales forced a free kick out of the ensuing scrum, and after the initial surge from Rhys Patchell was denied, the ball worked its way right to Halfpenny, who had options either side but went for the tryline himself and barged over for Wales' second try in the first 12 minutes.

The Scots made a rapid start with a big burst into the 22 by giant lock Jonny Gray in the second minute only for Wales to scramble and flanker Josh Navidi to win a vital turnover.

Chris Harris starts for the first time with Huw Jones being moved to inside centre to accommodate him.

The Wales full-back ended a five-year try drought with a superb double strike to heap humiliation on the woeful visitors.

The men in blue nilled Wales in the second half in Edinburgh past year and it looked like they could suffer the same fate in Cardiff in the first period.

That was the last clear chance of the first half and Wales headed to their changing room with a spring in their step, but knowing there was still plenty of work to do.

Scotland have not tasted victory in Cardiff since 2002, but are coming into this game on the back of an impressive autumn campaign which saw them thrash Australia and push the All Blacks close.

Any hope of a Scottish comeback was put to bed in the second half as Halfpenny added two penalties to stretch the lead to 20-0 after 50 minutes until Halfpenny scored his second try to stretch the lead to 27-0. However, after a couple of offloads in the tackle nearly put through Alun Wyn Jones, his final pass to Steff Evans was knocked on and the chance was lost.

The only surprise was the scoreline, a whopping 34-7 with a four-tries bonus point on Saturday.

Adams will be joined in the back three by school friend Steffan Evans and British & Irish Lions full-back Leigh Halfpenny, while Hadleigh Parkes and Scott Williams link up in midfield.

Former captain Greig Laidlaw has been named on the bench, with Ali Price preferred at scrum-half, while Jon Welsh and Gordon Reid are recalled following a number of injuries.
