North American Car, Truck and Utility of the year revealed

Last year's winners included the Chevrolet Bolt EV, Honda Ridgeline and Chrysler Pacifica.

To be eligible for the awards, a vehicle had to be new or substantially changed for the current year.

Larger than models from previous years, the Accord edged out the Toyota Camry and the Kia Stinger for the honor presented in Detroit. The Accord won out thanks to sleek new styling and a roomy, well-appointed interior. "Even in low-end trims, it drives well and offers a strong amount of standard equipment".

The Accord took home the prize for top auto, while the XC60 and Navigator were recognized as utility vehicle and truck of the year respectively. The Navigator's luxurious design, opulent amenities and compliant handling made it the standout among the competitive crop of body-on-frame vehicles up for contention.

Volvo's redesigned 2018 XC60 reigned supreme over the also-redesigned Honda Odyssey and all-new Alfa Romeo Stelvio. The utility category is specifically for car-based crossovers and minivans.
