ICE Director: Brown Should Be Criminally Charged Over Sanctuary State Law

California Gov. Jerry Brown at a news conference in Sacramento, Calif., on May 11, 2017.

"If he thinks ICE is going away, we're not", Homan said.

The debate over the policies pits those who argue sanctuary policies offer protection to hoodlums against those who say they provide a sense of safety that encourages undocumented residents to report crimes. For one, sanctuary cities do not block immigration officials from making arrests within the city.

The acting director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is criticizing California's new "sanctuary state" law. "If we haven't done so already, Caltrans crews will take steps to remove them".

"California better hold on tight", he said.

Mr Homan continued on to say that California Governor Jerry Brown, who signed a state-wide sanctuary bill past year, should expect more immigration agents in his state. Huyen Pham, a law professor at Texas A&M who focuses on immigration law and enforcement, tells Mother Jones it's a "stretch" to think sanctuary cities are coming "anywhere close" to doing that.

Homan said he wants to see the politicians personally held accountable for people dying at the hands of criminal illegal aliens due to sanctuary policies.

An official from the DOJ confirmed the department is working with ICE to "explore any and all potential options for holding sanctuary jurisdictions accountable for their unsafe practices".

Pit bull attack leaves woman dead, husband injured, police say
Two pit bulls reportedly mauled a Kentucky woman to death and injured her husband during a gruesome attack on Christmas Eve. Investigators with the sheriff's office are warning residents no to engage with the unsafe animal if they come across it.

The California law, though, continues to allow ICE to detain immigrants throughout the state.

California passed a measure a year ago that no longer allows local officers to cooperate with the feds unless it involves a serious crime.

Smuggling organizations will use the law as a "selling point", he said, adding that Brown "bit off a lot more than he can chew".

When a court ruling allowed most of SB 4 to go into effect, Travis County Sheriff Sally Hernandez backed off her earlier policy of ignoring most of the so-called ICE detainers that agents placed on inmates of the Travis County Jail who are accused of being in the country illegally.

An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent detains a convicted criminal alien in Los Angeles, Calif., on October 14, 2015.

Supporters of SB 4 believe the law will take criminals off the streets.

SB-54 bans state and local law enforcement officers from asking the immigration status of anyone during a routine stop, and they are prohibited from arresting illegal aliens based on civil immigration warrants.

The signs take aim at California's sanctuary state law that kicked in January 1, providing greater protections for immigrants living in the state illegally. "Is there a shred of civility, dignity or intelligence left in this president or in this administration?"
