Tehseen Poonawalla fumes at brother Shehzad for questioning Congress president election process

"It is totally unacceptable to me and my family that Shehzad has dragged Mrs. Gandhi into this, he should have presented whatever issues he had in the party forum.I really don't know why Shehzad did this, it's very surprising, he did not discuss this at all with the family. I will continue my fight against dynasty politics - I will not be cowed down by attempts to silence me", said Poonawalla on Twitter.

Mumbai: The Maharashtra and Mumbai units of Congress have made a decision to support vice president Rahul Gandhi's nomination for the party president's post by signing a resolution.

He also equated his treatment at the hands of the Congress to the what he called, the insult of Sardar Patel by the then Congress leadership.

With the start of the nomination process today, the chairman of the party's Central Election Authority, Mullapally Ramachandran, was in his office at the party headquarters where some leaders also met him and withdraw some nomination papers. "I will be happy to contest a genuine election, not in a rigged election", the party leader added. "I proved that they lied", he said.

Sonia Gandhi holds the record of being the Congress President for more than 19 consecutive years after taking over from Sitaram Kesri in March 1998.

This comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised him for raising his voice against dynasty politics. And Shehzad is a senior Congress leader in Maharashtra. Rupani was referring to the recent rebellion instigated by Shehzad Poonawalla in the Congress party.

A day earlier, he had also written a letter to Rahul Gandhi in this regard.
