Snow in the forecast for parts of Vancouver Island this week

On Tuesday a deepening low pressure system will track across northern Washington State close to the B.C. border.

Snowfall is supposed to be heaviest in the Fraser Valley, Fraser Canyon, Similkameen and Nicola regions, the weather agency forecasts. Cold air is expected through the end of the week, with temperatures on Friday dropping to minus 5 and minus 10 across the south coast during the day, with highs on Saturday just barely reaching the freezing mark.

"If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance", Environment Canada said in the weather warning.

Some Vancouver Island residents should brace for snow after Environment Canada issued a weather statement Monday morning.

Snow is likely in elevated areas on Tuesday, and lower elevations can expect a mix of snow and rain.

Up to 25 centimetres of snow is expected on Tuesday, with the greatest accumulation in the West Kootenay expected in southern regions like Trail.

Snow and flurries are likely for parts of Vancouver Island this week as a low-pressure system sweeps across B.C.'s South Coast.

The precipitation will ease Tuesday night and Environment Canada says any snow that falls will likely melt on Wednesday.

In the Boundary, the greatest accumulation is expected along Highway 3 and in Grand Forks.
