Israeli army destroys tunnel from Gaza

According to Palestinian Ma'an News agency, sources close to Islamic Jihad said that the two men - Hussein Ghazi Hussein Nasrallah and Mustafa Sultan - were part of the group's armed sing, Saraya al-Quds, and had been working for its northern brigade's engineering unit.

Israel has repeatedly hit the Gaza Strip over the last week, following the decision last Wednesday by US President Donald Trump to recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

The latest one, code-named Operation Protective Edge, took place in the summer of 2014 and resulted in the deaths of more than 2,200 Palestinians.

Hamas did not respond immediately to a request for comment. Once, because it is responsible for the Gaza Strip, and any act of violence that emanates from the Gaza Strip is under Hamas responsibility.

At least two rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip, with the second intercepted by Israel's Iron Dome missile defence system, the army said on Monday.

Residents also report hearing IDF artillery shelling the Beit Hanoun area of Gaza in response.

Israel hit a number of Hamas positions in retaliation, killing two members of the terror group, which is the de-facto ruler of the Palestinian enclave.

The military said in a statement that the Iron Dome missile defense system shot down a rocket fired at Israel from the Palestinian territory. The group vowed revenge on Sunday.

Military spokesman Jonathan Conricus said intelligence showed the tunnel belonged to Islamist movement Hamas, which runs the Gaza Strip.

Four Gazans, including two Hamas militants, have died since the announcement last Wednesday.
