The L.A. Times reports: "The fire was estimated to cover some 50 acres by 6:20 a.m., but Los Angeles fire officials said it was being fueled by 25 miles per hour winds and would likely grow even more". There were no injuries yet reported, according to KABC-TV.

The Getty Center and the nearby Skirball Center are both on the west side of the freeway, and did not appear to be threatened.

UPDATE: (7:10 a.m.) According to Los Angeles Mayor: 405 is closed in the Sepulveda Pass due to #SkirballFire east of the freeway. The Skirball Fire is in mostly residential areas causing evacuation, and UCLA students were given the option to go to class.

Fire crews responded to the brush fire dubbed the Creek Fire shortly before 4 a.m. and requested structure protection near Kagel Canyon. Roads affected include Casiano Road, Moraga Drive and Linda Flora Drive.

About 100 officers from the Los Angeles Police Department were sent to the neighborhood to handle evacuation orders, said LAPD Chief Charlie Beck. Two firefighting helicopters have been assigned.

On Tuesday, two risky fires swept through southern California, forcing tens of thousands of people to evacuate.

About 500 firefighters were sent to battle the Skirball Fire, including 350 from the LAFD.
