"One major, three soldiers got killed in cross border firing by Pakistan troops in Bhimber Gali area of Keri sector on Saturday afternoon at around 1215 hours", official spokesperson here said. He also added that Indian troops were retaliating effectively.

The injured jawan has been airlifted to hospital for medical treatment.

Also in Siachen glacier in northern Kashmir, Indian and Pakistani troops have fought intermittently since 1984. "The militants blew up the explosive device when army men were patrolling the area close to the LoC, injuring five army men, four of whom later succumbed to injuries".

"The martyrdom of Indian soldiers will not go in vain", the defence spokesman said.

There was no immediate comment from Pakistani authorities. Those martyred have been identified as, Major Moharkar Prafulla Ambadas, Lance Naik Gurmail Singh and Sepoy Pargat Singh. Major Ambadas, 32, belonged to District Bhandara, Maharashtra and is survived by his wife Avoli Moharkar, he said.
