2 arrested in 'horrific' quadruple upstate NY murders

Authorities have released the names of two women and two children slain in their upstate NY apartment and police are asking the public for information.

Troy police said the victims were two women, aged 36 and 22, and the older woman's 11-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter, according to The Record, a Troy newspaper.

Officials have released few details since a property manager found the bodies Tuesday in a home along the Hudson River in Troy, just north of Albany.

Police Chief John Tedesco said he has "never seen savagery like this" in 42 years in law enforcement.

"Only a person of savagery would do something like this", he said.

"I don't have the word."

The victims - Brandi Mells, 22, Shanta Myers, 36, and Myers' children Shanise, 5, and Jeremiah, 11 - were found dead in a basement apartment on Tuesday in what police called a "horrific" homicide that shook the upstate NY city.

The murders took place in Troy, a city in upstate NY. Troy police say the deaths are being treated as suspicious. Autopsies were performed Wednesday, Tedesco said.

"The Troy Police Department is releasing these photos not only for the media but to further appeal to the public for any information regarding this horrific case", Capt. Dan DeWolf of the Troy Police Department said in a statement.

On Saturday, Tedesco said the police do not have a motive for the killings but are confident that there will not be any additional arrests, even though the investigation continues.

Apparently, there was evidence discovered that suggests the murders were not a random act.

Police have not yet identified suspects in the case.
