Tennesseans react to potential head coach shift to Greg Schiano

Ohio State defensive coordinator Greg Schiano is close to finalizing a deal to become the head coach at Tennessee, according to Dan Wolken of USA Today.

Tennessee officials hoped to announce the hiring of Schiano Sunday afternoon.

Tennessee (4-8, 0-8 SEC) ended its season Saturday with a 42-24 loss to Vanderbilt.

It appears the Tennessee Volunteers have made a decision on who will be their next Head Coach.

Schiano's record as a head coach in both the National Football League and at Rutgers may be uninspiring to Vol fans.

After going from Rutgers to the NFL, Schiano wasn't almost as effective. The Scarlet Knights made six bowl appearances under Schiano.

Tommy Fleetwood and Justin Rose Dubai drama
I think how gracious he was shows a lot about his character. "I thought I played as good tee to green as I have all year". Rose was disappointed with his finish, but delighted for Fleetwood.

He is now the associate head coach/defensive coordinator at Ohio State.

Schiano is now Ohio State's defensive coordinator, be he has a relationship with Tennessee athletic director John Currie.

Schiano developed a relationship with Currie when he was out of coaching for two seasons following his short tenure in Tampa.

Schiano worked at Penn State from 1990 to 1995, first as a graduate assistant and then as defensive backs coach. Now he'll try his hand against a new Volunteers head man.

Schiano was hired by the Buccaneers following the 2011 season, but he was sacked after two seasons with an 11-21 record.

This is a developing story.
