President Trump on Monday ramped up his war of words against North Korea, saying the US and its Asian allies "will not stand" for its nuclear aggression.

Trump is on a 12-day Asia trip which kicked off in Japan. Trump suggested in a news conference the USA will arm Japan and declared Pyongyang "a threat to the civilized world".

US President Donald Trump said Sunday he expected to meet his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin during an Asian tour likely to be dominated by global tensions over North Korea. "We will not stand for that, the era of strategic patience is over".

Trump, who has responded to North Korea's repeated tests and pursuit of nuclear capabilities with threats of "fire and fury", is scheduled to golf Sunday with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. "Some people say my rhetoric is very strong, but look what has happened with very weak rhetoric over the past 25 years".

Trump won't visit the heavily-fortified demilitarized zone that separates North and South Korea - foregoing what has been a symbolic opportunity for United States commanders in chief to stare into the Hermit Kingdom - declaring it a "little bit of a cliche". As soon as he set foot on the Yokota Air Base west of Tokyo, Japan, the president made his primary agenda behind his visit clear.

The US president, according to the newspaper, is "unstable".

Trump is also seeking to renegotiate the US-Korea Free Trade Agreement, which experts believe could further strain the alliance at a time when they should be showing unity and resolve. "It was not pleasant for them, was it?" roared Trump.
