Lewis Hamilton dominates Brazilian Grand Prix practice

Mercedes Valtteri Bottas, of Finland, steers his auto during the first free practice at the Interlagos race track in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Friday, Nov. 10, 2017.

Sebastian Vettel says Mercedes is the clear favourite for victory at the Brazilian Grand Prix after the first two sessions of Friday practice.

Finnish team mate Valtteri Bottas was second in both and ended up just 0.048 slower.

But the 32-year-old Englishman put his off-track troubles firmly to one side to end both sessions at the summit of the order ahead of his Mercedes team-mate Valtteri Bottas. "It will be great to finish the season with at least one more victory".

"It's been a good day", said Hamilton.

Daniel Ricciardo finished fifth fastest, though is set to be handed a 10-place grid penalty after taking on a new MGU-H, his eighth of the campaign.

Hamilton, who accused Renault's Nico Hulkenberg over the radio of unsafe driving in forcing him wide onto the runoff in the morning, was half a second faster than Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen before lunch.

The Ferrari driver is 15 points ahead of the Finn, however, it was Mercedes who had the pace at the Interlagos circuit on Friday. But Hamilton eventually set the best time on the yellow rubber, and again when Mercedes switched to the supersofts.

His 20-year-old Dutch team mate Max Verstappen, victor of two of the last four races, was fourth and fifth on the respective timesheets.

In a disastrous session for Toro Rosso Pierre Gasly was down in 19th place, completing just five laps, and Hartley suffered an engine failure after two laps.

"This is not an opportunity for us to take our eye off the ball", added the Briton, who was planning on visiting the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu in Peru with friends in between the Latin American races. Vettel had a harmless spin early in the session, possibly on oil laid by Brendon Hartley.

"I don't know the track so for me it was really important to get some running", said Gasly before both went out in the afternoon.

Lance Stroll was 11th for Williams, ahead of Mercedes-backed GP3 champion George Russell, who received his first run out for Force India.
