DeShone Kizer suffers rib injury as Browns lose 38-24 to Lions

The tide turned with a rib injury suffered by Browns starting quarterback DeShone Kizer in the third quarter.

Nevin Lawson of the Detroit Lions recovered a fumble and ran it back for a touchdown in the second quarter Sunday against the Cleveland Browns.

According to the CBS broadcast, the rookie had his ribs injured.

Jackson whipped his headset after the play, indicating that Kizer must have audibled into the sneak. Kizer was playing arguably his best game of the season before being forced to the sidelines, having completed 15 of his 24 throws for 178 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions. Linebacker Jamie Collins hurt his knee in the first quarter. He tried - but failed - to rally his team from a 14-point deficit late in the fourth quarter. Isaiah Crowell and Duke Johnson ran well. Crowell finished it off with a 6-yard run.

Second Half Stops The Browns defense gave up 3 touchdown drives in the second half. He remains unsigned and has filed a complaint that team owners colluded against him because of the protests - aimed at police brutality against African-Americans and other issues. Johnson pitched in with a 19-yard run on his own on the drive.

The second-year veteran last played on October 22, replacing Kizer early in the third quarter of Cleveland's 12-9 overtime loss to the Tennessee Titans.

Cleveland scored the first 10 points of the game, but the Lions rallied to take a 17-10 lead by halftime. Kizer was careful with the ball and made a nice throw to Seth DeValve before the Browns' third touchdown.

Detroit leads Cleveland 31-24 in the fourth quarter. But at least this time they showed some signs of life. Detroit needed just 10 rushes to surpass the average of 84.3 yards per game on the ground allowed by the Browns. Yet another botched opportunity and frightful clock management considering that the Browns had to blow their final timeout with 1:17 to go in the half. The Browns stalled again in the red zone though, with Kizer overthrowing David Njoku out the right side of the end zone on third down. DeShone Kizer opened with a 38-yard completion to receiver Sammie Coates up the far sideline to set up a first-and-goal.
