Apple reportedly acquires Vrvana for $30 million Dollars

Last year Toms Hardware was at the Immersed trade show in Monaco and stated: "The Vrvana Totem mixed reality HMD is the most impressive thing I saw at the show". "The display technology required, as well as putting enough stuff around your face - there's huge challenges with that. The field of view, the quality of the display itself, it's not there yet".

So what attracted Apple to Vrvana in particular?

Below is photo of Vrvana's headset without its glass cover. And a report published yesterday claims that Apple has purchased Vrvana for $30 million. TechCrunch has an excellent record on announcing Apple acquisitions. The report says Apple has been working on augmented reality headset to ship in 2020. The acquisition would indicate that Cupertino is gathering assets to make its planned push into the AR market. Currently, the Vrvana site is still active, but it has made stops in the updates on social accounts and also on news from the month of August this year. Totem turns out to be a superior system to such technologies as it can overlay fully opaque, true color animations on top of the real world rather than the ghost-like projections of other headsets, which cannot display the color black. No lag, seamless transition between AR and VR, no cords and no need for controllers? This could be one reason why Apple is taking the AR tech so seriously. Apple was granted a 3D hand tracking patent on November 7th.

In a report by TechCrunch, the site states that Apple has acquired Vrvana in a $30 million Dollars deal, although neither company has confirmed the sale, with the site simple citing sources close to the deal.
