AAA: Highest Thanksgiving Travel for 2017 season

This would be a 3.3 percent increase over past year, and be the highest number of travelers since 2005.

Statewide, 6.26 million are projected to travel over the Thanksgiving holiday, also a 3.6 percent increase from a year ago and the highest number of Thanksgiving travelers since 2007, when 6.44 million Californians took a holiday trip.

"AAA expects drivers will pay the highest Thanksgiving gas prices in three years, thanks to strong demand and higher oil prices", said Mark Jenkins, AAA spokesman in Tampa.

A new report by Hertz shows that Orlando International Airport will be among the busiest airport pick-up locations for rental cars.

On Thursday, the average price for regular stood at $2.52 per gallon statewide, up from $2.14 a year ago.

Higher gas prices won't stop Floridians from hitting the road this Thanksgiving.

AAA said that most Maryland travelers are expected to drive to their destinations.

"Most people have already made their travel plans, and will not cancel them for moderate shifts in gas prices", Jenkins said. About 3.3 million will fly, which is a 5 percent increase from last year's Thanksgiving holiday. "A strong economy and labor market are generating rising incomes, driving up the confidence in consumers who are more willing to spend on travel this year".

"Idaho has experienced a seasonal price drop, but it's been slower than in recent years", Conde said. "However, this year flying for the holiday is not as expensive as other years with average airfares the lowest in five years".

It is the sixth consecutive year air travel has grown during the holiday, and now accounts now for 7.8 percent of all travel, its highest share since 2010, AAA said. Nationally, Anaheim, site of the Disneyland Resort, is expected to be the second most popular Thanksgiving destination, according to the AAA.
