5 militants, IAF Garud killed, jawan injured in north Kashmir encounter

In a sudden escalation of violence across Kashmir Valley on Saturday, the banned Lashkar-e-Tayyeba (LeT) outfit received a major jolt as security forces shot dead six of its terrorists in a meticulous operation while losing an Indian Air Force (IAF) commando.

The security forces had specific input on presence of LeT terrorists in the area.

The encounter between the security forces and militants is underway, Kalia said.

"While fighting the militants, one IAF guard was killed and an army trooper injured", Col Rajesh Kalia, Indian army spokesperson told Xinhua.
