Today, Amit Shah also took a swipe at Rahul Gandhi's recent visit to the USA, calling it a vacation. The assembly elections in Gujarat will be conducted in December, so there's just around 2 months left to complete the campaigning.

Two motorised raths have been prepared to facilitate party state president Jitu Vaghani and deputy chief minister Nitin Patel's trip through the state and several SUVs painted in the colour of the party will travel along with them during the march.

The yatra comes close on the heels of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi's three-day visit to the Saurashtra region last week. Through the campaign 'Development Gone Crazy, ' the BJP's rival, mainly Congress party, has sought to highlight the state's abysmal performance on development front.

BJP president Amit Shah slammed the Congress for "injustice" to Sardar Patel and former prime minister Morarji Desai, both of whom wer from Gujarat.

"The BJP today launches Gujarat Gaurav Yatra from the same land of Sardar Patel from where he raised the voice of the farmers and started the work to unify the country", he was quoted as saying by PTI.

Amit Shah had on Sunday kicked off BJP's mass outreach initiative "Gujarat Gaurav Yatra" boasting about Gujarat's achievement in the 20-years of BJP government leadership in the state.

The BJP's Gujarat Gaurav Yatra will continue till October 15 and during this period 138 jan sabhas will be addressed. It will be held on two routes simultaneously.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Shah will participate in the concluding ceremony of the yatra.
