Iran Guard chief warns USA against imposing new sanctions

Addressing a group of senior IRGC commanders on Sunday, General Jafari pointed to the "Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act", which was signed into law by Trump in August and allows the president to impose fresh sanctions against Tehran, and said, "If the United States administration implements the CAATSA, the Islamic Republic of Iran will view it as Washington's unilateral withdrawal from the nuclear deal".

Jafari also said that if the United States designates the Guard as a terrorist group, the Guard will also consider the U.S. army a terrorist group.

"These sanctions will complete the experience of JCPOA for us: Iran will then become confident that dialogue for U.S. is an instrument of pressure and hostility not interaction or problem solving".

They form part of the Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act passed in August which relates to Iran, Russia and North Korea.

Foreign Minister Zarif added that in realty, the region is suffering from mistaken policies of the USA and Iran is confronting terrorism and Takfiri groups and will continue its policies in this framework and realities in the region are gradually enlightened for other world countries.

The anti-US parliamentary measure provides for a multimillion-dollar boost in spending on Tehran's missile program and IRGC's overseas operations.

Trump's administration earlier this year considered, but then put on hold, adding the IRGC to the U.S. list of foreign terrorist organizations.

Jafari's remarks came two days after US President Donald Trump claimed Iran "supports terrorism and exports violence, bloodshed, and chaos across the Middle East" and suggested it has "not lived up to the spirit of" the nuclear deal.

"The Americans should know that the Islamic Republic would use the Trump administration's stupid behavior toward JCPOA to make great strides in advancing its defensive, regional and missile programs", he said.

The Quds Force, the IRGC's foreign espionage and paramilitary wing, and individuals and entities associated with the IRGC are on the USA list of foreign terrorist organisations, but the organisation as a whole is not.

Iran's ballistic missile program has triggered the discontent and concerns of other states, in particular, the United States.
